"CKAC reports Bob Gainey has talked to Chris Chelios."

Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Really folks. I would have taken Chelios (even at his age) for a year at say, 750 rather than what we are tied into Gill for. Chelios as a 6th or 7th guy and a mentor for the young dmen would be an asset IMHO. And yes, I am sober.

Agreed Barry- Chelios has character and is not afraid to run rough shod and play a nasty game- something that is totally lacking onthe defensive core right now. Mara might find some enthusiam for the game again with Chelios leading the way.

This would be chucking good money after bad money!

PLEASE lets open-up the slots to the youngins!!!

P.S. And-o is pretty close to a full-out quest to have Gainey removed! One more panicked and ill-conceived move will turn this tide. Teflon should be on VERY thin ice if this team doesn't start winning consistently.

I would have liked to see Chelios as one of our original acquisitions at the back end. Had he been acquired (along with a star defenseman) to round out our defense and help bring up the young guys, then he would have been quite useful. Right now, we have too many people, and at best he would crowd the back end, blocking spots for young guys.

Assuming our guys get healthy eventually, we currently have Markov, Spacek, Gill, O'Byrne, Hamrlik, Mara, Gorges, and Bergeron as NHL guys, as well as at least 4 guys pushing to make it (Carle, Weber, Belle, and Subban). Subban is a ways off, but why do we need so many guys on the limit between the NHL and the AHL? Chelios would have made great sense at league minimum if we had signed a star instead of Gill, Mara, and Spacek. I'm not saying that there was one to be had, just that it would have made Chelios make sense.

I sitll don't get why they let Francis Bouillon go for nothing. Was he even offered a contract?

He was very reliable back there, and we could sure use him now.

:o

I would of loved to have Scudari back there rather than Gill. BG went after the wrong Penquin but it is what it is.

How 'bout Jay Leach instead!?!?!??

Yeah...YEAH...that sounds about right Bobby!!! Ya better grab him...before Providence, Mississippi or Lowell does!

.....all a part of his BIG plan for these Habs.

P.S. The Emperor is a complete idiot!

Easy And-o....i think this move is based on having callups from hamilton....its just a move to help out down on the farm i'm sure....but if not and he plays with the habs, give him a chance, ya never know....look at Georges, he was a nobody back in San Jose.
