I'm no fan, but the guy would instantly be our best centre, and possibly our best forward.

What do you think?

Apparently he's being shopped and Minnesota, Los Angeles, Edmonton and Atlanta are all interested.

I'm surprised about Minnesota, considering they already have upside in Koivu and Sheppard, plus an excellent veteran third-liner in Belanger. I would think they'd be more interested in a 2nd-liner and finding a top-end winger to replace Gaborik.

Spezza with Kovalchuk would make waves for sure, but what does Atlanta have to trade? I suppose Lehtonen, for one.

LA with Spezza could be another Chicago Black Hawks, considering the young talent they have everywhere except in nets. Add Bouwmeester to the mix and....Yikes~!

Edmonton has a couple of guys who are poor-man's young Spezzas...is Ottawa looking to swap, get younger and spend a year rebuilding? Seems like a bad strategy to me given the quality of their top line and the way they played down the stretch. If I was Murray I wouldn't even think about trading Spezza at this point. As Montreal knows, good centres, even if they are punks like Spezza, are tough to come by. He's already done a lot more in the playoffs than Thornton.

Is Sheppard that good? He's from here (Halifax), but I didn't think he was any great shakes.

#9 pick, very young (has already played over 150 NHL games at 21), great size, but it remains to be seen if he'll make it as a #2 centre. Still, he should be given a shot. A lot of potential there. Major issue is he is struggling to score goals.
