Sadly boys and girls, this doesnt look like it is happening. Our media pushed the Bolts gm too far now. GM Brian Lawton has now gone on record and has now flat out said that he will NEVER trade Vincent Lecavalier... www.rds.ca
I feel that perhaps before that we had a fighting chance to get him, but now that Lawton has pretty much placed his rep on this, i really think its over.

Hey AB, if you were a GM lucky enough to get a player like Lecavalier, Kovalchuk or Boouwmeester in the draft, would you trade them??? Seriously?
As far as I know the only franchise-type (non-rental) player traded since the new CBA was signed was Joe Thornton, and that trade was not good for the Bruins, unless you consider Sturm an adequate replacement for Thornton. The rest of the trade was gone quickly (Stuart, etc...)...Believe me, GMs around the league took note.
Unless you consider Jokinen franchise-type. I don't...although I'd settle for him right now.

Luongo and Pronger. Was Jovanoski considered a franchise huy when he was moved??? But your point is well made. Florida gave up Luongo for effectively nothing, they now hold on to Bouwmeister hoping to make the playoffs. But, if a GM takes prospects and/or draftpicks in order to totally disassemble and re-build, then at least he is trying to make change.

The respective teams are trying like heck to resign these two guys but obviously if they can't, trading them would be smart so the answer would be "yes". Why bother squeaking in the playoffs for one round and than losing these guys for absolutely nothing?
This could be reality but this is probably too big for BG.

Here we go again.
Jacques Demers is now talking about Vinny AND St. Louis coming here before the draft!!!
Who goes?
The Kostitsyn brothers and Hamrlik plus a few picks maybe?
Wow plouf, I think it'd have to be wayyy more than that....maybe Markov, Subban, both Kostitsyns and a first? We're talking 2 world class hockey players here who have Stanley Cup rings and are under 30.

Well, not quite. St. Louis will be 34 in June. Lecavalier is 29 next month.

Wow, didn't realize St.Louis was that old. I guess he played NCAA and started later.

he was in the Flames system for a bit too. He won a Calder Cup with the old Saint John Flames.

The Lecavalier stuff is coming back.
More and more commentators (and not just Habs commentators) are saying that Vinny will be offloaded before the draft.
Obviously Montreal will be a possibility.
Personally I think it's 100% worth the risk. This franchise needs a shot in the arm and a gamble is totally in the cards. Of course Lecavalier could be damaged goods.
What would it take?
Does a package of the Kostitsyn brothers, Mathieu Carle, Tomas Plekanec, Jaroslav Halak, Ryan O'Byrne and 2 first-rounders seem about right? OR can we actually offer less because Lecavalier will be so hard for TB to deal with that contract?
