I wonder if Coach Carbonneau will start benching him this year so he doesn't pass #17 in the rankings?

Hey Nil'd...or maybe he'll yank him off the PP (same effect).

Point taken, but even 5-on-5 I think he can cobble together 11 points.

The same old things that have been for the past +10 years.
Stand on y'er head goalkeeping...and hit-and-miss powerplay proficiency!
However, the root problem STILL persists (no top notch first line centre)!!!

Closer to no supporting cast.

How logical is it to keep rotating the entire cast versus ponying up and filling the centre slot appropriately???
How many more coaches?
How many more number one goalies?
There is a better way!
...flip a package of draft picks, prospects, a goaltender and upcoming UFA talent for a franchise centre!
OR
...limp along 'two-steps forward...one-back' for another year or two!
(Think about that John! Where does the present course of action take us???)

I think you're both right here...but it's probably closer to what John M. says because if Koivu has a Jason Arnott or a Ryan Getzlaf as his #2 centerman (who are big #2 centers on other teams), then 2 things happen: A) you get your supporting cast; B) Koivu becomes more productive because he doesn't get roughed up as much.

if koivu stays a hab his entire career... he will definately make the top 7 all time.
I really dont think until Saku wins the cup for the habs will he ever be considered a retired number player.
Saku has been great... and in the new NHL you cant expect a player to do what beliveau, richard and lafleur did... Koivu has done well, but we need a cup!

OMFG! Honestly!!???
Cripes...assume for one wild delirious minute that the Habs reeled off 2 Cups in a row over the next 3 years or so...
...could you reasonably justify hanging Saku's number next to the present ones hanging in the rafters already??????
Sheesh...talk about illusions of grandure!!!
Is Saku even the best Hab player to ever wear #11???
WOW...must be the first Friday of an 'undefeated season'!!!

He is afterall the 18th all time point getter amongst Habs. That's what this thread is about remember. Let's stick to that.
