Fleury is 41 - How many 41 year old players in The NHL are factors on their respective teams or any other professional teams for that matter. Fleury should attend a couple of days of training camp & then announce his official retirement as a Flame since it did not end nice 3 or 4 years ago when he was forced out of The NHL due to his personal problems. The NFL did something similar in the past with some of their players where they sign a one day contract with the team they had the most sucess with & then retire (like Emmit Smith & Jerry Rice?)..........

If Fleury is fit, he can still play at the NHL level. He does have some tools to work with. My guess is he'll play in the AHL(sell tickets) until the end of the season where he'll get called up for a playoff run.

Just because he is fit does not mean he can still play at the NHL level every player who goes to a NHL training camp is/should be extremely fit - Fleury has missed a mininum 5 years of NHL competition & look at Mats Sundin last season granted He was not in the best of shape when he joined The Canucks but it took him quite awhile to become a factor for Vancouver and he only missed half a NHL season as well as being 5 years ? younger than Fleury. If Fleury wants to play in The AHL (with a chance of a callup) good for him but maybe he can become another Mike Keane in Winnipeg avec Le Moose and extend his career a few more years..........

Well have to wait and see how he does habs93. I think he has enough tools such as good hands and skating that he can make a positive difference in the AHL. If he has lost a step though, he'll get punnished and that will take too much out of the little guy.

I saw him a few years ago when he was playing in the British elite league, and he looked slow (by British Elite league standards), but a few years have passed, so who knows. I'm not holding my breath, but at the very least, it's a classy move by the Flames and, as AB says, it will give them a nice marketing tool if he can make either the NHL or the AHL.

I would love to see him play in the NHL this year. I think he could be a nice addition to help the Flames.

The verdict is in. After a much-publicized attempt at an NHL comeback, Theoren Fleury has been released by the Calgary Flames.

Does anyone really think this was anything but a publicity stunt by the Flames?

That said, it seems like he has gotten his life back on track, and kudos to him for that.
