The latest trade rumors involving the Flyers have either Danny Briere or Joffrey Lupul and a top prospect (either James Van Riemsdyk, Luca Sbisa or a 2009 first-round pick) headed to Montreal for goaltender Carey Price and the rights to defenseman Mike Komisarek, who will be unresitricted on July 1. If Briere is included, he would need to lift his no-trade clause to make it happen.
Price has a cap hit of $2.2 million. Komisarek could command about $5 million.
I can't see Gainey giving up on Price. Also would be stupid to give up on him without first getting him a better goalie coach to work with.
I could see it happeneing, not because he has given up on him, but because if he wants a veteran backup, he needs to send Price or Halak packing, and which of the two has done better under Melanson? I still maintain that Price has more potential than Halak, but Halak is more of a sure thing.
Briere did not want to come to Montreal because he wanted to play with his buddy Martin Biron. If this rumour holds any truth, Briere would have to waive his no trade clause(if he has one). Biron may also be interested in coming to Montreal as well. He would bring some veteran presence and would satisfy more than a few people wanting more Quebec born players on the team.

Then trade Halak, send Melanson packing and hire a goalie coach that can bring out Price's full potential rather than change his style. Bring in a veteran like Kolzig who likes Price and believes he is the real deal to mentor him.
